UN CountrySTATS

UN CountryStats is a data visualization app published in 2011 that can compare key economic, social, and population indicators for 229 countries. Indicators are drawn from the United Nations’ authoritative data set which can be viewed as bar graphs or as complete country profiles.

By adapting the data of the World Statistics Pocketbook, the app presents the data in two distinct ways: it visualizes and compares indicators across countries, and it displays detailed pages of each distinct country.

In my role as the project manager, I coordinated the work between all stakeholders, with a specific focus on the interface design and user experience in collaboration with the developers.

I was part of the team that refined the functional scope, conceived the wireframes, and ensured that the proper technological infrastructure was available. The development was outsourced to a specialized firm.

UN CountryStats has become a flagship UN mobile app that established a standard for high-quality app publishing at the UN, thanks to a cross-functional team among the Outreach Division of DPI and the Statistics Division of DESA.
